Lilypools is a small family business, established in 2007, designing and building raised garden ponds, planters, water features and accessories.
A few years ago we wanted to add a pond to the garden of our new house, but found it difficult, if not impossible, to find a company that would build a raised pond to suit our requirements.
We had considered digging a hole, lining it with sand, buying felt and a liner, and making a sunken pond, but for two reasons; 1. we didn't have the time and area to dig a hole; 2. we have a young niece who often visits, and the thought of her accidentally falling into a sunken pond concerned us.
Out came pencil and paper and we set about sketching some ideas for ourselves of a pond that met our needs, finally deciding on a wooden block form pond of around 1.5 metres in diameter and 0.5 metres deep.
A trip to the DIY shop followed, and our first lilypool pond was born after a few days in the garage sawing, drilling and nailing.
During the summer of that year, 2003, several of our friends commented on how lovely they thought it looked, and asked where we had bought it from; all were shocked to find that we had actually made it!
We finally succumbed to several requests for us to build these friends their own ponds, and started to be asked by friends of friends.........
Lilypools as a commercial concern was then hatched which brings us to here. We started a web site (www.lilypools.co.uk) and registered with search engines. We now have around 100 visitors to our site daily and have orders from across the country.
